How to get involved after the Annual Sustainable Campuses Conference
Sustainable Campuses is a national initiative from the Sierra Youth Coalition that inspires, informs, trains, and supports Canadian students working toward social equity, ecological integrity and economic prosperity on their campuses. These changes are achieved through addressing institutional operations, improving curricula and mobilizing campus community members’ support.
The Sustainable Campuses project is working with thousands of students from across Canada in order to:
- Change environmental and social practices on Canadian campuses
- Empower youth to influence decision makers

The goBEYOND project is a student driven initiative working to mobilize BC’s youth to face the challenge of climate change. We are in classrooms hosting dialogue about solutions, working with our peers to inspire lifestyle change, and ensuring that BC students have a voice in our post-secondary institutions planning processes
To get involved on a provincial scale, or to bring the project to your campus, contact the Campus Climate Network project manager. They can also direct you to regional coordinators active on your campus.

Environmental Coordination Office of Students (ECOS), University of Alberta Students’ Union
ECOS, the Environmental Coordination Office of Students, is the Students’ Union’s sustainability office. We maintain a vision that it is possible to create a world characterized by ecological integrity and environmental and social accountability. ECOS works to involve students in a multi-lateral approach to campus sustainability.
-
We educate and involve the campus community regarding the ecological, social and economic aspects of sustainability.
-
We research and recommend environmental and social policies to the Students’ Union Executive, which strive to make the Students’ Union a model of sustainability.
-
We provide resources to the campus community which will network and assist community members to be leaders in sustainability.
ECOS involves and educates students regarding sustainability through a number of different volunteer opportunities we provide. If you’re interested in learning more about bike mechanics you can volunteer with our Bike Library, if you want to work on your public speaking skills, volunteers can train to present our Educational Presentations to residents and student groups on campus. Other projects to get involved with include the Resource Room where we have a number of resources on sustainability topics, the Reusable Dish Program where we rent out dishes for campus events and meetings or to individuals, the Infolink Recycling project where campus community members can recycle electronic waste, the Peregrine Falcon Webcam Project where you can view our nesting peregrines online, the Campus Community Garden and Naturalization Projects where you can practice gardening and landscaping with organic and native plants or you can just come out to our monthly Green Sessions to learn more about different topics of sustainability. We would also love to hear any ideas you have for a project on sustainability.
